More than 200 people, including local elected officials and several judges, attended a memorial for Jane Wood at St. Columba’s auditorium on W. 26th St. on Sun., June 6. Wood, a tenant advocate for 40 years, died at the age of 96 in March. She founded Chelsea Coalition on Housing. A laptop computer showed photos of a young Jane Wood, who was born to a patrician family in St. Louis, but, beginning in the Depression, devoted her life to progressive causes, advocating for labor and housing issues.
